The Kinks' original version of ‘I Need You’ is a pretty strong record, but in 1967 the Early Rationals took it, pumped it full of steroids and amphetamines, and turned it into a monster. Staying in 1967, the Tormentors ‘She’s Gone’ calms things down a bit whilst adding a sprinkling of darkness to the mood. The rarer of the two originals, this is only now breaking big in the clubs. It’s nice to dance to, but it also has the kind of haunting chorus you’ll eventually find yourself singing in the bathtub."
